PREPARING FOR RYLA

You've already done the most important thing to prepare for RYLA -- you decided to get involved in helping young leaders improve their skills during an unforgettable weekend.​

WHAT TO BRING

  • A positive attitude and sense of humor

  • Sleeping bag or sheet and blankets (Dorms are heated) and a pillow. Camp beds have vinyl mattresses only.

  • Toiletries and other personal hygiene items – toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc.

  • Prescription medication(s) (must be listed on your application)

  • Bath and hand towels

  • Walking shoes, tennis shoes or hiking boots only. Sandals and other open-toed shoes are not allowed

  • Long pants/jeans

  • Short sleeved t-shirts

  • Sweatshirts/sweaters

  • Winter jacket, gloves and a hat

  • Shorts are acceptable, but keep in mind temperatures drop quickly at night (30s to 50s)

  • Underwear and socks

  • Lightweight flashlight – remember fresh batteries.

  • Phone and charger

 

FAMILY SUPPLIES

  • Backpack (day pack) large enough for your handbook, extra jacket, snacks for the day, water bottle, tarp

  • Family signifier (bandana, hat, head/wrist bands, etc.)

  • A waterproof tarp to sit on for family meetings (just large enough for 10 people to sit, not too big)

  • Snacks for family meetings

  • Sharpie (to write names on water bottles)

  • Hand sanitizer

  • Sunscreen

  • These items typically cost about $100. If you need assistance with this cost, please contact the RYLA Committee's facilitator coordinator.

 

OPTIONAL SUPPLIES

  • Extra warm jackets, gloves, sweatshirts for students to borrow

  • Extra pillows, towels, toiletries for students who forget

  • Feminine products for students (camp doctor has these supplies, but sometimes students feel more comfortable asking a facilitator)

  • Wet wipes or disinfecting wipes

  • Extra chapsticks to give to students (lips always get dry in the mountains)

  • Extra chargers and cords (committee members will have power strips you can request if needed)
